The Denver Junior campers are off to an amazing start for their first week of camp in Denver ever! Wild About Weather is our theme, and our group name is Coyote Spine Hikers.

We started our week at Rocky Mountain Arsenal yesterday, and learned the Water Cycle Boogie. We did personal weather reports and decorated our camp water bottles. At the end of the day, we wrapped up songs at the Aresnal’s Contact Room (old visitor’s center) for our quiet time. The campers found a giant spine of an animal and brought it for the Explorers to check out. That’s how we got part of our name!

Today we set out at Bluff Lake. While there, we saw quite a few deer and bunnies too! We got to experience some nice cool weather while eating lunch on the “dock” that overlooks the lake. We started an Alphabet Hike, and got through letter “G.”

After lunch we played for a bit, and then hiked some more and found a really cool shelter. We then headed to our base at Fletcher Elementary and had quiet time and a book about thunder and lightning. We talked about weather forecasts and tried to guess the weather for the next day. The campers learned a few songs about bumblebees today and we topped off our day with “On Top of Spaghetti” as usual.
