We had a great second day of activities here at Camp Granite Lake, giving everyone a chance to work harder on everything they began yesterday! Backpackers packed for their trip with jake & Susie, and head out for their overnight tomorrow morning. One-week campers enjoyed their trip to the Gilpin County indoor pool!
Campers are getting used to their schedule, and enjoying their Organized Free space after snack and third period. Today, many campers braved the cold lake water and went for a swim, played games in the lodge, played basketball, kickball, and hula hooped in the field, made bracelets and lanyards with Ellen and Keely, and even took showers! Organized Free is a great time of day to spend time with other campers that may not be in your cabin or in your activity periods.
After a delicious pizza dinner, campers and counselors headed to the Big Hall to start off the night’s Evening Program. Tom led some great camp songs, including “Sloopy,” “Lean on Me,” and “Mighty Quinn.” Then, we talked about how Embers, our usual Wednesday night Evening Program, would look for tonight. Embers is a really special time for cabins to spend time together around their own campfire space in the woods, and tonight the focus was “A Funeral for the Words I Can’t.” Tom asked, “Has there ever been a time that you assumed you couldn’t do something? Has someone ever told you that you wouldn’t be able to do something?” Everyone raised their hand, and Tom spoke about some times that he’s seen campers experience the same feeling and come through it with confidence.
Campers and counselors walked to their campfire spaces, and wrote down some “I Can’t” phrases that they have experienced on slips of paper. If they chose to, campers shared it with their cabin before throwing it into the fire and watching it disappear. Cabins enjoyed some time together around their fires before heading to bed, and one-week campers made some s’mores with Jenna and their counselors.
