Tommy knew from an early age that camp was his life’s work! After many summers attending and then directing camps in Ohio, Wisconsin and Colorado, Tommy started Mountain Day Camp in 2005, which evolved is now called Camp Granite Lake.
“The growth I experienced at camp influences everything I do in work and play. I wouldn’t be who I am, and I wouldn’t have my energetic and independent approach to life without it. Little did I know the influence camp was having on my life – I was just having fun!”
Tommy’s family is actively involved in life at camp. His wife, Ali, is a pediatrician. Their kids are: Joey, age 5, and Mara, age 3. They live up at camp all summer, too.
My name is Annabel Agras and I am currently a sophomore at Montana State University! I attended Mountain Day Camp which has now evolved into Camp Granite Lake and loved every summer! Hi, my name is James Bach I am so excited to be coming back for my 3rd summer at Camp Granite Lake. I am a Colorado native born and raised in Denver. I am a 3rd year Accounting major at the University of Denver, GO PIOS!! In my free time I enjoy skiing, golfing, and watching sports. I am so excited for another amazing summer at Camp Granite Lake.
Hello, my name is Abbie and I am ecstatic about returning to Camp Granite Lake for my second summer! I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and German from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in May, 2017. In my free time, I enjoy playing board games, being outside and creating music with others. I spend most of my days in a canoe at camp and can’t wait to get reacquainted with the lake, campers and employees. See you this summer!
Currently on the road to graduating from college with a bachelors degree in Outdoor Recreation. In my free time I enjoy hiking along the Mississippi River with my camera on one side, and my dog on the other. This will be my second year at Camp Granite Lake! I can’t wait to take part in all the amazing programs like Archery, along with the even more amazing campers this summer.
Hey Y’all. My name is Haley Ginkens. I grew up in Sugar Land, Texas and moved to Chicago, Illinois to attend DePaul University and study Environmental Science. I love being active from taking a nice run outside to playing a friendly game of volleyball. Not only do I love the outdoors but I also enjoy a good Harry Potter marathon. This is my first year at camp Granite Lake and I can’t wait to start new adventures along with the campers.
Josh Grant is a crazy, caring, adventurous sort of chap. Once an actor, he now works with kids and teens in the school and church environments and is the bestselling author of two novels. He’s had numerous crazy adventures like surviving a flash flood, sailing the ocean blue, and has run in close with several bears (not all at once), but he really just enjoys spending time with people laughing and growing together. Josh can’t wait to continue his rule over the land of forts, having some good laughs with the wonderful campers, acting in a skit or two, and tag teaming with the best counselors this side of the Mississippi.
Jen Kling: by winter, a philosophy professor at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, by summer, a Village Director at Camp Granite Lake! When not under cover of her philosophical alter-ego, Jen loves introducing campers to different camp activities, running awesome all-camp games, and listening to the great things that campers have to say. She is the Village Director for the Intermediate campers, and also manages the lakefront, due to a short stint as Aquaman’s understudy in her youth (Jen worked for a sailing camp in Indiana for several summers in high school and college). When not creating cool camp teambuilding challenges with the greatest of ease, Jen enjoys hanging out with her daughter Kaylee, age 4, her husband Patrick, and her dog Knight (all of whom are likely superheros, but some of whom are not so disguised). She can’t wait to get back to camp this summer!
My name is Blake McClain and I am currently a student at University of Colorado Boulder! As a Colorado native, I love spending time with friends and family in the outdoors. From backpacking, rafting, and trail running to tossing a disc, stargazing, or watching the sunset, I continue to find passions in all aspects of nature. I cannot wait to spend my summer building genuine connections with people in the beautiful outdoors!
Hi! My name is Kimberly, and this is my first summer at Camp Granite Lake. I was born in Florida but have lived most of my life in central Georgia. I am currently studying biology at Georgia Southern University in Savannah and hope to one day be a conservation biologist. Fishing, hiking, kayaking, playing with my dogs, and just being outdoors are some of my favorite things, as well as playing piano occasionally and reading (Harry Potter is my all-time favorite). I’ve never been to Colorado, and I can’t wait to see what this summer has in store for me and my campers!
My name is Alissa and I’m from Gainesville, FL. I’m currently living in North Carolina studying Psychology as a sophomore at Wake Forest University. I love being outdoors, whether it be going on a run, playing literally any sport, or just reading a book. I can’t wait to have a great summer with new friends and campers, while enjoying all that Colorado has to offer!
Tom has been working summers at Camp Granite Lake since 2011, and has been a part of the year-round team, first as Program Director, and now as Assistant Director since 2013. During the summer, you’ll frequently see Tom with a guitar in his hand leading one of his favorite camp songs, like ‘Sloopy’ or ‘Heart of Gold’. During the off season, Tom works with prospective and enrolled families, giving them tours of camp and visiting them for slideshows, as well as interviewing and hiring staff.
Tom and his wife, Jordan live in Broomfield, CO during the winter, and he enjoys playing guitar, digging through record shops, rooting for the Broncos, and running in his free time.
My name is Molly Simmons and I am currently a junior at the University of Georgia pursuing a degree in Public Relations! I’ve lived all over the South- Atlanta, Birmingham, Athens, and Topsail Island. When I’m not at school, you can find me kayaking, hiking, or reading a good book. I can’t wait to get back out to Colorado and have a great summer with the campers at Camp Granite Lake!
Camp Granite Lake, here we go! This will be my fourth summer in the beautiful Golden mountains. Originally from Florida, I’ve been calling Boulder my home since 2013. For the past year I’ve run non-emergent medical transport in the Denver Metro area. The desert, sunshine, and spicy foods are my jam. I’m absolutely ecstatic for another opportunity to bond over the passion for ropes and rock with everyone here at camp!
Hi! I’m Andrew and I am stoked to return to camp for my fourth summer. I have recently graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois with a degree in Sport Management and Marketing. Post-graduation I have been working for a Youth Hockey Team and recently Minor League Baseball. In my free time I enjoy spending time outdoors, including going hiking, golfing, and backpacking. I cannot wait to get back to Colorado and Camp to create new lasting memories with campers and counselors alike!
This is my third summer here at Camp Granite Lake, and I’m stoked to return to camp as the Junior Village Director. This past year I floated up the west coast from my home state of California to Portland, Oregon where I spent my year as an instructor for kindergarteners in a before and after school program. In the summers at camp I’m typically found in the crafts tent where I often wind up painted or dyed some shade of blue. I’m very ready to be back with the Camp Granite Family, old and new.
Krista has been working in summer camp since she was seventeen years old. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors of Science in Recreation Management. She has held many roles at camp including Pilates Instructor, Barn Director, Adventure Staff, Registrar, Program Manager and more. She loves singing songs, putting on costumes, and using her imagination. She recently moved to Boulder, Colorado with her husband Phil, whom she met at camp, and her dog Miles. She is looking forward to sharing her favorite songs and games with Camp Granite Lake campers this summer.
Howdy Y’all my name is Olivia! I’m from Georgia, but I currently live in Knoxville, Tennessee where I’m about to enter my final year pursuing a degree in Elementary Education from Johnson University. I absolutely love the outdoors and eating food, preferably bar-b-que. I’m so excited to be back for another summer of low ropes and my personal favorite, tomato soup and grilled cheese day. I absolutely can’t wait for another summer full of joy, laughter, and building the best relationships!
