Tommy knew from an early age that camp was his life’s work! After many summers attending and then directing camps in Wisconsin and Colorado, Tommy started Mountain Day Camp in 2005, which evolved into Camp Granite Lake.

“The growth I experienced at camp influences everything I do in work and play. I wouldn’t be who I am, and I wouldn’t have my energetic and independent approach to life without it. Little did I know the influence camp was having on my life – I was just having fun!”

Tommy’s family is actively involved in life at camp. His wife, Ali, is a pediatrician. Their kids are: Joey, age 11, and Mara, age 9. They attend camp, too.

21st Year

Abbie (she/her) became part of the Camp Granite Lake team in 2017, as a cabin counselor, and has since transitioned into a year-round position and now is an Assistant Director. She grew-up in a canoe in Minnesota and enjoys teaching waterfront activities on our lake! In her free time, Abbie loves playing board games, hiking, and talking about dragonflies. During the off-season, Abbie lives in Denver and spends her weekends learning to ski and identifying wildflowers.

Abbie has been singing camp songs for 25 years and can’t wait to learn new ones from you!

9th Year

Ellie joined the Camp Granite Lake team in April 2022 as one of our Assistant Directors. She has a background in teaching high school Physical Education, and previously spent five summers working at sleep-away camps on the East Coast where she met her husband, Ben. Ellie is originally from ‘across the pond’ (England!), and moved to Denver in 2020. She loves to travel, the sunshine, an afternoon diet coke and making the most of all the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer. 

Ellie has loved her three summers at CGL, and can’t wait to see familiar and new faces in summer 2025!

4th Year

Barry started at Camp Granite Lake in 2016 as a cabin counselor and has since joined the year-round team as the Admin Director. A California native, Barry and his cat, Stuff, now call Colorado home. In his free time, Barry loves rock climbing, stamp carving, antiquing, and finding new board games to play with friends. Barry loves reading stories in cabins, participating in all camp running games, and playing card games!

Barry can’t wait to be back at camp singing Boa Constrictor at morning meet up, and hanging out around a camp fire!

8th Year
